Instead of another reading chart or log, Read & Reign turns reading into something your family can look forward to.

Gather 16 picture books, set up your Championship bracket, and read them head-to-head. As the Championship unfolds, stories become contenders, opinions become votes, and family favorites move one step closer to the crown.

Along the way, you’ll read together, talk about the stories, compare favorites, defend your choices, and discover which books your family can’t stop cheering for.

Until finally…

16 picture books become one Family Champion. 👑

Reading doesn’t have to feel like one more thing to get through.

When children have something to wonder about, something to talk about, and a real say in what happens next, books begin to feel different.

They become something to look forward to.

That’s it. No complicated system. No reading log to keep up with.

Just two books at a time, a conversation, a vote—and the excitement of seeing what happens next.

And they’re learning along the way.

Read & Reign doesn’t turn reading into another lesson. But as children compare books, explain their choices, notice details, and listen to other opinions, meaningful literacy skills are happening naturally.

They’re not answering questions because they have to. They’re talking about books because they have something to say.

And that’s only the beginning…

Your Championship also includes themed book tournaments designed to keep the experience going.

New books bring new opinions.

And in Read & Reign, every one of those opinions matters.

And while they’re busy choosing favorites, defending their picks, and debating which book should advance… something else is happening.

They’re building real literacy skills along the way.

The learning happens naturally because children have something worth talking about. As they compare two stories, explain a vote, notice an illustration, defend a favorite, or predict which book will advance, they’re practicing meaningful literacy skills—without turning family reading into another assignment.

They’re not completing a reading exercise. They’re thinking deeply about books because they care which one wins. 👑

For a child who already feels unsure about reading, participation shouldn’t have to begin with proving what they can do. In a Read & Reign Championship, they can listen to the story, study the pictures, laugh at a favorite part, compare two books, and cast a vote that counts just as much as everyone else’s.

Reading becomes something they get to be part of—not something they have to perform.

And Then You Start Looking for the Next Champion. 👑

The final vote is exciting—but the real win is everything that happened along the way.

Your family read together. You formed opinions. You defended favorites. You discovered books you might never have picked up otherwise. And somewhere between the first matchup and the final crown, reading became something everyone had a reason to come back to.

Because the goal was never just to finish 16 books.

It was to create a family reading experience worth remembering.

And when a new Championship theme arrives, you get to fill the bracket again and ask the question that starts it all:

Which book will reign next?

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to buy 16 new books?

Not at all. You can use books you already own, borrow them from the library, or mix and match. Each themed Championship gives you a curated lineup of 16 picture books, but there’s no need to purchase all 16 to enjoy the experience.

What ages is Read & Reign for?

Read & Reign was created to grow with your family. Younger children can participate by listening, looking closely at illustrations, talking and voting, while older children can compare stories, defend their choices and dig more deeply into what makes a book memorable. Picture books make it easy for children at different reading levels to participate together.

Can reluctant or struggling readers participate?

Absolutely. A child doesn’t have to read every word independently to have something worth saying. They can listen to the story, explore the illustrations, choose favorites, join the conversation and cast their vote. Read & Reign is designed so that participation isn’t dependent on reading level.

How long does a Championship take?

There’s no required schedule. You might read one matchup each evening, spread the Championship across several weeks, or move through it more quickly when your family is excited to see what advances. The bracket keeps your place, so the Championship can fit your family’s rhythm.

Can homeschool families use it?

Yes. Read & Reign works beautifully as a family reading tradition and as a supplemental literacy experience. As children listen, discuss, compare and vote, they naturally practice skills such as comprehension, oral language, inference, visual literacy, critical thinking and communication—without turning the experience into another reading assignment.

Is this a physical product?

Read & Reign is a digital printable product. You’ll receive the Championship materials to download and print at home. The picture books themselves are not included.

What are the themed Championships?

The bracket stays the same, but the books change! Each themed Championship gives your family a fresh curated lineup of 16 picture books along with matching Book Cover Cards and theme-specific extras. A new Championship theme is released each month, giving you another collection of stories to discover, debate and crown.
